전세계 문화∙예술의 축제, 프랑스 '니스' 카니발

Visited Nice Carnival with my high school friend and it was the best trip I’ve ever had.
고등학교 후배와 함께한 프랑스 니스 여행, 여행 파트너부터 시작해서 해변, 음식 도시의 곳곳마다 완벽하지 않은게 없었다.
그야말로 "정말 최고" 였던 이상적인 여행! 이번 포스트는 특별히 전세계인들이 함께 모여 문화∙예술 축제의 장을 펼친 '니스 카니발' 에 다녀온
짧은 후기이다. 부족한 사진실력이지만 현장 속의 활기와 흥분을 최대한 담아보려고 노력해보았으니 재미있게 읽어주시길!
1. International Parade: This year's theme was MUSIC and dancers and performers from various African, South American, and European countries came to participate in the carnival. (Sadly not many asians, but Psy’s world-famous songs Gentleman and Gangnam Style were endlessly played). It was very exciting to see Korean travellers wearing Han-bok, our traditional costume.
1. 인터네셔널 퍼레이드: 올해의 테마는 '음악', 이곳에서 아프리카 남미, 유럽 등등의 나라의 음악 및 댄스들을 볼 수 있었다. 아시아 음악이 없어 많이 아쉬웠지만, 전세계를 '강남스타일'로 물들인 싸이의 노래들이 '무한 반복' 되어 신나고 자랑스러웠다! 한복입은 한국 관광객들도 만나게 되었는데 어찌나 반갑던지! (이래저래 애국심 폭발)
2. Old People & Young Kids : Everyone had a given role to participate. No one was excluded. Old people were driving Carnival cars and handling massive balloons. Young kids were dancers/leaders/fairies of the Carnival. They were standing on the sides of huge Carnival cars and scattering confetti (or throwing them) to people.
2. 노인 + 아이들의 적극적인 참여 : 모두가 각자의 역할을 가지고 있는 것이 보기 좋았다. 노인분들은 대부분 카니발 차를 운전하시거나, 대형 풍선들을 다루는 일을 하고 계셨다. 아이들은 카니발 차에 올라타 춤도 추고 종이들을 흩뿌리며 사람들을 반겼다. 마치 카니발의 요정들 같았다.
Me and my friend were quite impressed how Nice Carnival conferred appropriate/manageable role to people to involve them. I am not sure if they are paid or not; if they are paid, a very nice employment opportunity for retired people. If not, well, such system still creates community bonding effect and makes an inclusive carnival.
니스 카니발이 적당한 일을 적정한 나잇대의 사람들에게 수행하게 하는 것이 똑똑해 보이기도 했고 인상적이었다. 다 같이 함께하는 카니발이란 이런 것이구나 느낄 수 있었다. 돈을 받고 하는 것인지 아닌지는 모르겠지만 좋은 노인 고용창출의 기회 같아 보였다. 설령 돈을 받지 않는다 하더라도, 퇴직하신 분들이나 노인분들이 지역사회에 더 참여해서 소속감을 느끼게 해주는 것은 좋은 사회를 향한 '똑똑한' 발걸음이라 생각한다.
3. Handicapped people : They were also part of Nice Carnival as same as other people. We saw some of them were driving Carnival cars and walking down the parade with others. This was very very impressive. In Korea, it is quite hard to imagine this happening, yet. Giving opportunities to handicapped people to officially work and participate in one of the TOP 3 carnivals in the world? Sounds amazing.
3. 장애우 : 장애우분들도 니스 카니발의 중요한 부분이었다. 그들도 다른 이들과 똑같이 함께했다. 퍼레이드 진행자 중에도 다른 사람들과 스스럼없이 섞여서 거리를 행진했고 카니발 차를 모시는 분들도 계셨다. 장애우라고 차별하지 않고 할 수 있는 일들은 맡기거나 함께 할 수 있다는 것을 아주 잘 보여주었다. 한국이라면 약간 상상하기 힘들기에 그분들의 카니발 참여를 보며 많은 걸 느꼈다.
4. Artists and Entertainers : We saw a lot of musicians, performers, dancers, and circus people. My friend jokingly said that Nice Carnival should be a great opportunity for artists to work. But it’s TRUE. Such festival is utilizing human resources very efficiently. Not just about employment opportunity : artists should participate in these public social events more and more. Artists desperately need society’s support and attention. They should not be hungry. Arts constructs culture, and culture fulfills the society. More societies/communities should work with their artists!
4. 예술가들 : 다양한 나라, 다양한 춤, 다양한 악기. 너무나 많은 예술가가 필요한 카니발이었다. 내 후배는 장난식으로 예술가들의 고용창출에 엄청나게 좋겠다고 했지만, 사실이다! 어딘가에서 일거리를 찾고 있었을 예술가들에게 이런 축제는 얼마나 좋은 기회이겠는가. 예술가들이라고 항상 배고프고 일상생활의 사람들과 단절되는 게 아니다. 그들도 사회의 일부이고, 예술가들이야말로 사회의 후원이 적극적으로 필요하다. 예술이 풍성해야 문화 수준이 올라가고 사회 분위기도 훨씬 즐거워질 수 있다고 본다. 예술가들과 사회의 더욱 적극적인 '연결고리'가 절실하다.
